What is a Rio Valley Steward?
Give a little time. Create a lot of shade for all.
Rio Valley is organized into 26 small Steward Zones, generally containing 8 to 11 homes each.
A Steward is simply a neighbor who helps the households in their zone pay attention to their trees, shade, and irrigation.
What Does a Steward Do?
Once a month, spend approximately 20 to 30 minutes walking through your zone, preferably with another neighbor.
Look at the trees and discuss their condition.
Notice whether irrigation is working properly.
Identify trees that may need attention or replacement.
Report concerns so management can arrange appropriate work.
Help neighbors stay informed and participate if they wish.
Then go home and get on with your life.
What Doesn't a Steward Have to Do?
You don't have to become a tree expert, repair irrigation systems, prune trees, enforce HOA covenants, or organize social events.
Professional management and qualified contractors remain responsible for their work.
Why Does It Matter?
Our survey showed that residents want excellent maintenance, healthy trees, abundant shade, and responsive management.
We could pay more for additional services, or we could help make our existing resources go further by contributing a little of our own attention.
And while we're creating shade, we're creating connections.
Imagine what 26 Stewards could accomplish for 250 households.
